Protocols

Commercialisation protocols provide a guide to the formation and operation of UWA spin-out companies.

Commercialisation activities will be performed by the project manager.

The project manager will be responsible for the leadership of all negotiations pertaining to the commercialisation of the inventor's IP. However, it is crucial that during this process:

  • The project manager maintains a high level of consultation with the inventors.
  • Inventors remain actively involved in the process, particularly updating us on further research developments.
  • Inventors consent to work with us on the agreed commercialisation strategy and do not negotiate directly with potential, external commercial partners.

Legal Services

We will work with UWA Legal Services to draft and approve all agreements concerned with commercialisation projects, including the requirements for confidential documentation of commercial discussions.

Revenue management

Incoming revenue will be managed by us and will be apportioned in line with UWA's IP revenue sharing policies and the IP revenue sharing agreement.

Performance management

The performance of commercialisation projects and agreements will be managed by us. Inventors will be provided with updates on performance, or any issues arising from the commercialisation of IP.

Spin-out companies

In some cases, IP will be identified as being appropriate for the formation of a spin-out company. Commercialisation protocols provide guidelines for the formation and operation of UWA spin-out companies. Spin-out company formation must be approved by us before proceeding.
